Architecture Drafting and Design – (College Prep Course) This course is a graphic communication course that teaches students how to prepare drawings needed to develop and manufacture products. Basic drafting (year 1) section includes learning to use drafting equipment, CAD, alphabet of lines, multi views, and dimensioning. This course also presents basic instruction in preparing architectural working drawings.  The architectural drafting (year II) section includes floor plans, elevations, electrical plans, and sectional drawings. Students create these drawings using traditional (manual) drafting as well as computer aided drafting (CAD). AutoCAD is the industry leader in design, drafting, modeling, architectural and engineering software. Students will be offered advanced level training using this software. Students will also be able to download AutoCAD to use free at home during the two years they are enrolled in Drafting. Upon successful completion of this program, the student will be qualified for an entry-level drafting or related position or may pursue postsecondary education. Students, who are interested in areas of drafting and design, graphics arts, engineering, or architecture, should consider this course of study as a fantastic way to explore future careers and get a head start for college.
