Students enrolled in Architecture and Drafting, Collision Repair, Automotive Service Technology, Information Technology and Welding are eligible to join SkillsUSA.  SkillsUSA programs include local, state, and national competitions in which students demonstrate occupational and leadership skills.  This national organization prepares America’s high performance workers.  It provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship, and character development.  It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes and communication skills.  It emphasizes total quality at work, high ethical standards, superior work skills, life-long education and pride in the dignity of work.  SkillsUSA also promotes the understanding of the free enterprise system and involvement in community service activities.

 

SkillsUSA empowers its members to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens.  SkillsUSA improves the quality of our nation's future skilled workforce through the development of Framework skills that include personal, workplace and technical skills grounded in academics. 

SkillsUSA serves more than 360,000 students and instructors annually.  This includes 20,926 instructors who join as professional members.  Including alumni, SkillsUSA membership totals over 400,000.  SkillsUSA has served more than 13.5 million annual members cumulatively since 1965.

Jones County Career Technical Students Place at District SkillsUSA Competition

Jones County Career Technical Quiz Bowl team recently competed in the district SkillsUSA competition hosted by Jones College.  The Quiz Bowl competition tested the ability of the team to respond quickly and accurately to questions concerning academic knowledge, career knowledge and current events. The Jones County Career Technical Quiz Bowl team took third place in the competition.  A third place win allows the team to advance to the state SkillsUSA competition in Jackson.  The Jones County Career Technical SkillsUSA Quiz Bowl team is composed of the following students Matthew Hoodless, Holden Brabham, Mckayla Church, Colton Buckley, Blaze Stevens, and Micah Lowe. Jones County Career Technical SkillsUSA advisors include Brandi Edwards, Richard West, Steven Myers and Jim Breland.
